Welcome to Simon M Milton’s website. Simon is a teacher, arranger, and composer based in Newport in North Fife, in Scotland. Simon works as woodwind instructor for Fife Council and is also visiting teacher of oboe at the University of St Andrews. He has acted as oboe tutor for the Aberdeen Festival Summer School and also for the Summer School run by the Scottish School's Orchestral Trust.
Simon has made many successful and highly praised reductions of the orchestral accompaniments for operas by Mozart, Rossini and others. These provide a more suitable accompaniment than the full orchestration for a small theatre and are particularly useful where young voices are involved. These arrangements can be hired from this site.
As part of his work as a woodwind teacher for Fife Council, Simon works
with many school bands and ensembles. He is often called upon to arrange
music for these ensembles which sometimes consist of unconventional
combinations of instruments. These arrangements have been highly praised.
Copies of them can be ordered through this site.
Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail produced by the Aarhus Summer Opera in 2003.
During the performances of the opera I realised I simply wasn't missing the full orchestra. The reduction of the score was entirely satisfying and successful.
